PCB Membrane Switch Subassemblies

A PCB membrane switch refers to a membrane switch where the circuit layer is a rigid printed circuit board (PCB). Generally speaking, the circuit layer of a membrane switch is usually made of a PET circuit printed with conductive silver paste, due to its strong advantages of flexibility and low cost. However, in some special application fields, PET circuit membrane switches often cannot meet the requirements of end customers. At this time, PCB will replace the original PET as the circuit layer of membrane switches for these special application fields.

PCBs typically feature high density, high precision, small aperture, fine wiring, fine spacing, high reliability, multilayering, and high strength. The main reasons for using PCB as the circuit layer in membrane switches are its high reliability and high strength characteristics.

In which scenarios do membrane switches need to use PCB as their circuit layer?

Based on years of industry experience from LuphiTouch, we have summarized the following application scenarios where the use of PCB circuits is recommended:
* High-end medical equipment;
* Military equipment;
* Rail transit;
* Aviation and marine;
* Other special application environments, such as high temperature, high humidity, and high corrosion etc.

Additionally, in applications where the product needs a certain degree of rigidity, such as in some mechanical equipment, PCB is sometimes used as the circuit layer. This is because the rigidity of the PCB can serve as both the circuit layer and the support. For such applications, screws are usually mounted on the PCB for easy installation on the client's mechanical equipment.
In membrane switches, the PCBs used are usually single-layer and double-sided boards, and rarely multilayer boards. Common thicknesses are 0.6mm, 0.8mm, 1.0mm, and 1.6mm. Most applications do not require UL certification, but some special high-requirement applications often require PCB to have UL certification. LuphiTouch can provide PCBs with UL certification, while also meeting RoHS and REACH environmental requirements.
